Our Services

Orthopedic Physiotherapy

Manual Therapy

Orthopedic manual therapy refers to hands-on techniques that are used to treat neuro-musculoskeletal conditions. These techniques target a specific area of the body (based on the patient’s intake assessment) and are performed by trained practitioners with the ultimate goal of reducing pain and increasing mobility/function.

Spinal Manipulation

Spinal manipulation involves strategically placing pressure on specific joint segments of the spine. This treatment is performed by an orthopedic physiotherapist to alleviate pressure on other joints, improve flexibility, and reduce pain.

Acupuncture & Dry Needling

We are pleased to offer both acupuncture and dry needling to patients seeking physiotherapy in Edmonton. Both treatments involve the insertion of sterile single-use needles into targeted areas of the body, but for different reasons. The purpose of acupuncture is to alleviate pain and treat various physical, mental, and emotional conditions, , while the purpose of dry needling is to reduce tenderness caused by hypersensitive taut bands (muscle “knots” or nodules). The best treatment for you will depend on the cause of your pain, dysfunction, or concern.

Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Rehabilitation

Whiplash Associated Disorder (WAD), concussion, vertigo, and arm and leg injuries are all common amongst those who have experienced a collision due to the sudden force the body endures upon impact. MVA rehabilitation is a form of physiotherapy that helps minimize pain and encourage movement and function, resulting in a quicker recovery.

Taping and Bracing

Taping and bracing are typically used to treat sports-related injuries, but in some cases are also used to treat other conditions. Tapes and braces are used to support muscles and joints to help reduce strain and potentially aggravating factors, while also restricting movements that may be harmful. They can also prevent minor injuries from developing into more serious conditions— a major benefit for athletes or those who live an active lifestyle.

Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy

Manual Therapy

There are many specialized hands-on techniques we incorporate into pelvic floor physiotherapy treatments. These techniques treat soft tissues both externally and internally, increasing range of motion, alleviating pain and inflammation, and optimizing the function of the pelvic floor muscles. Most of our individualized physiotherapy programs include some form of manual therapy.

Whole Body Assessments

Comprehensive intake assessments are an essential part of any individualized physiotherapy treatment. We conduct a thorough examination for every patient, asking detailed questions about their pain, discomfort, lifestyle challenges, and greater health goals. We also complete physical examinations to determine the source of a patient’s pelvic floor pain, dysfunction or health condition, as other areas of the body can contribute to (or exacerbate) unwanted symptoms.

Internal Pelvic Floor Exams

In some cases, an internal pelvic examination may be required to accurately assess and diagnose a patient. We conduct all internal pelvic floor exams in a private setting, with your informed consent, and while being mindful of your comfort at all times. Internal pelvic examinations take about 10 minutes to complete and should not cause pain. It is important to note that while internal pelvic floor exams can provide your physiotherapist with vital information regarding your health, they are never obligatory. If you are not comfortable receiving an internal pelvic exam you can decline this step. Your practitioner will rely on an external assessment, as well as your intake assessment, to develop your personalized treatment plan.

Muscle Retraining Exercise Programs

Weak pelvic floor muscles can often regain tension and strength with proper training. On the other hand, pelvic floor muscles that are too tight can also lead to dysfunction. We provide patients with personalized exercise programs that address the specific concerns, symptoms, or conditions they are experiencing. In addition to retraining the pelvic floor, we also offer whole body retraining for patients experiencing pain, discomfort, or dysfunction as a result of broader causes (c-sections, abdominal surgeries, diastasis, etc). These conditions or injuries often contribute to pelvic floor issues and must be addressed to improve body function as a whole.

Birth Prep Education

The body undergoes many changes throughout the prenatal, birthing, and postnatal periods. We guide mother’s-to-be through these changes as part of our women’s health physiotherapy services, providing them with information, techniques, and strategies to promote optimal outcomes during their pregnancy, birth and postpartum period.

Breastfeeding Support

Many women struggle to breastfeed for a wide range of reasons, including blocked ducts, breast inflammation (mastitis), and discomfort caused by back or neck pain. We help our patients overcome common breastfeeding issues by treating pain, managing inflammation, and facilitating milk flow (lactation massage).

Education and Self-Management

To achieve optimal results, your physiotherapist may recommend a post-treatment home program. Each home program is personalized to the client’s needs and explained in full detail in a one-on-one setting. Whether you require bladder/bowel retraining for leakage, or urgency/frequency, exercises and advice to alleviate constipation, or a routine for regulating urinary retention, we would be happy to discuss your options with you and establish a plan that achieves your desired results.

Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy

Many clients require massage therapy in addition to other forms of orthopedic physiotherapy to achieve personal health and lifestyle goals. Massage therapy improves circulation, reduces stiffness and aches, and alleviates symptoms of scar tissue build-up— all of which benefit the healing process (leading to improved function).
We are proud to offer massage at our Edmonton physiotherapy clinic as an added convenience and supplemental service.
